  • An analysis of which demographic segment(s) will provide opportunities for future spending growth, partially derived from VisaNet data. 
  • How much longer the current economic expansion is expected to last and when the next recession is likely to occur.
  • Whether the slowdown in job growth in March is expected to persist, or if job growth is expected to rebound for the balance of 2017 and 2018.

About the presenters

Jay Hawkins – Sr. Economist
Jay Hawkins - Sr. Economist Image
As a Senior Economist in Business and Economic Insights, Jay Hawkins is responsible for building econometric models to forecast sales volume for each Visa product, including the twice-yearly update of the Bankcard Outlook, a comprehensive forecast of the bankcard industry.
 
He also provides expert consulting advice to Visa Clients on the economic environment and how that impacts the financial performance of the payments industry.
 
Before joining Visa USA, Mr. Hawkins was a Senior Economist at TransUnion for two years and a Senior Economist at The Hartford for four years where he specialized in building econometric models for the financial services industry. He has also held economic research positions at several consulting firms, including Informa Economics and the Regional Economic Studies Institute of Towson University.
 
Mr. Hawkins holds a B.S. in Finance and an M.A. in Applied Economics.
